When the Transbay Joint Powers Authority unveiled the Salesforce Transit Center in 2018 — connecting 11 transit systems across the Bay Area after more than a decade of construction — the launch had to be more than a ribbon cutting. It needed to be a civic moment. And as TJPA moved into Phase 2 of the Transbay Program, a bold statewide vision to unify transit across California, the stakes grew higher: secure funding, earn public trust, and build support across jurisdictions for infrastructure that wouldn’t be complete for years.

D&A served as TJPA’s strategic communications and public engagement partner across both phases. For the grand opening, we planned and produced a landmark block party that drew 30,000+ attendees including Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Mayor London Breed, raised $100K+ in sponsorships, and earned coverage from 80+ media outlets including the New York Times, ABC7, KQED, and the San Francisco Chronicle. For Phase 2, we created The Portal — a bold branded identity for the Transbay Program’s next chapter, including a custom logo, visual identity system, messaging framework, and community-facing collateral that positioned the project as the connective tissue between local and statewide transit.

From a landmark grand opening to a statewide brand identity — D&A helped TJPA build public trust and momentum for the future of Bay Area transit.
A landmark launch and a future-facing brand identity that helped secure $3.4M in new federal funding for Phase 2.
