Copywriter (as needed, variable hour)

Location: San Francisco, CA/Hybrid

This is a part-time position, and the hours will vary weekly. 
 
Working closely with Account Services and Growth and Marketing, you will write, develop, edit, and publish content for various platforms, including ad copy, websites, blogs, videos, email marketing campaigns, advertising, business development, social media posts, long and short form pieces, case studies, infographics, white papers, story concepts, and more.
 

What You Will Be Doing: Creating a More Just and Equitable Society

As a Copywriter, you will spend your days crafting compelling content and messaging that aligns with a client’s brand identity or that of our equity-first Agency. For the Growth & Marketing team, this includes developing high-level pitch deck copy for private sector clients, supporting the creation of award submissions, writing social media copy, and collaborating on long-form thought leadership blog posts. You will also assist in developing marketing collateral and materials for conferences and events and contribute to updating our website and digital presence.The content you create is engaging; it shapes narratives, sparks conversations, and inspires action. You will write copy for ads and blogs, craft story concepts, create marketing and sales content, write commentary, ghostwrite for C-suite executives, create articles and position papers, and more. Your writing will educate and persuade readers. You will review and edit copy, ensuring accuracy and grammatical correctness. You will voice your opinion and make recommendations, not only on strategic approach but on what we as an Agency should be writing about.

You will collaborate with the VP of Growth and Marketing and Director of Account Services to ensure that all content reflects the brand’s voice and strategy and/or goals of the piece. You will research market trends, identify and analyze audience behavior, and refine brand messaging to resonate with target demographics. You will ensure that everything you touch is viewed through an equity lens.

  • A news aficionado, passionate about current events and what is going on in our community and the world, staying abreast of what’s trending. 

You have:

  • The instincts of a reporter, doing the necessary research to provide context in your writing;
  • The ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently and prioritize project goals;
  • The expertise to follow editorial guidelines along with a strong grasp of grammar rules;
  • Experience developing integrated content to reach diverse audiences, including marketing, digital media, advertising, and public relations, with a strong understanding of social media channels and how to leverage them on campaigns. Experience supporting marketing efforts through the development of high-level case studies, pitch deck copy, and thought leadership content is a plus;
  • A track record of creating top-performing content and contributing to the development of strategies that will increase reader engagement, including knowledge of the latest strategies for SEO optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create Content: Writing clear, compelling, and engaging copy for various mediums, including ads, websites, emails, social media, advertisements, and print materials. Both short- and long-form content. This includes developing high-level pitch deck copy, case studies that showcase D&A’s work, award submissions, and longer-form thought leadership blog posts.
  • Developing Campaign Assets: Conceptualizing and executing campaigns that drive engagement and conversions. This includes collaborating on marketing collateral for conferences and events.
  • Edit and Proofread: Reviewing and editing content to ensure it is free of errors, aligns with brand voice, and maintains high quality.
  • Collaborate with Teams: Working closely with marketing, design, and sales teams to develop content that meets organizational goals and resonates with target audiences.
  • Conduct Research: Researching industry trends, target audience preferences, and competitor activities to inform content strategies.
  • Makes Recommendations: Proactively provides content direction, strategic approach, story concepts, and can take those suggestions and tie it back to what we do as an Agency.
  • SEO Optimization: Writing SEO-friendly copy to improve search engine rankings and increase online visibility.
  • Brand Consistency: Ensuring all content adheres to internal or client brand guidelines and maintains a consistent voice across all channels, including case studies, pitch decks, marketing collateral, and social media content.
  • Adapt Tone and Style: Tailoring writing style and tone to suit different platforms, audiences, and purposes.

Education and Experience

  • BS/BA in a discipline related to Writing, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or English (a plus)
  • 4+ years of copywriting experience in a mission-driven environment.
  • Advanced-level experience with Microsoft Office Suite in a Mac environment, Google Drive, Slack, Asana or other project management tools.
  • Experience as a reporter and/or journalist is a plus!
  • Experience working with elected officials, government agencies, community groups, non-profits, public education, or any bureaucratic agency is a plus!
  • Experience with some graphic design tools, such as Canva, is a plus!
